十余年间，科琳娜一直没有放弃对舒马赫的治疗，从舒马赫亲友透露的些许信息中我们得知，卧病在床的这十余年，舒马赫的状况并不好。

因为需要支付高昂的治疗费用，此前科琳娜已经为治疗舒马赫变卖了近9000万欧元的家产。2015年，科琳娜以3000万欧元出售了舒马赫的私人飞机和在挪威的房产，2021年又以5870万欧元出售了位于瑞士的豪宅。据德国媒体称，目前舒马赫每年的治疗费用为700万欧元。

据在德国生活过的人介绍，德国大部分银行的账户极难由他人变现。他人变现时必须有开户人签字的授权书，除非开户人死亡，开户人的妻子、孩子和父母没有授权书就取不出现金，这意味着财产如果是以舒马赫的名义存下来的，要取出这些存款必须要舒马赫本人签字才行。

而如果舒马赫死亡的话，科琳娜和孩子们才能提取遗产。因此，这些钱目前对舒马赫家人来说只是一个数字，所以，科琳娜为了救丈夫只能变卖两人共同的房产、飞机等资产。
